Project Tacloban (2010/2011) was a collaboration between Studio Tacloban, a local NGO called Streetlight, and the families of the Seawall slum in Tacloban, the Philippines. The ambition was to strengthen a community through the collective process of making architecture. Designed in conjunction with local mothers through a series of workshops, and constructed in collaboration with local fathers, the outcome of the project was a study center for the children of Tacloban. The parents’ realization that they could create a better future for their children released incredible amounts of energy and a generated a very strong sense of unity.

The Study Center was sadly destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan on 8th November 2013. Please see the ‘project Tagpuro‘ page for more information about the rebuilding efforts.
