Art in Public Space, Trondheim, Norway, 2024 (ongoing)

Curating the public art works for the new campus of the Norwegian  University of Science and Technology

Public Art Norway (KORO) is a state agency that integrates contemporary art into state-funded buildings and projects. Marit Kristine L. Flåtter, Thora Dolven Balke, and Alexander Eriksson Furunes were appointed as curators to develop a public art strategy and plan for the new campus of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). As the second largest state-funded project in Norway, the new NTNU campus presents a significant opportunity to explore the intersection of art and academia. The curatorial theme focuses on creating autonomous spaces where art and academia can operate independently of institutional, state, or private constraints. Through dynamic programming, residencies, and workshops, these spaces are envisioned as hubs of intellectual freedom and unrestricted exchange. With funding of NOK 46.3 million, this initiative seeks to emphasizing the vital role of art in public spaces.
