Kunst som straff
Oslo, Norway, 2023

Temporarily moving the classroom of Agder High Security Prison to the artist-run gallery Kunstnernes Hus ( House of Artist) for the exhibition Kunst som Straff (Art as Punishment).

The Public Art Project «Agder Kunstakademi (Agder Art Academy) located within Agder High Security Prison was curated by Thora Dolven Balke and Kristine Jærn Pilgaard. The project was a collective artwork, where Furunes was brought in as an artist to plan, design and build the classroom with the inmates. The exhibition Kunst som straff (Art as Punishment) at Kunstnernes Hus, was the culminating exhibition of the work that inmates and visiting artists had produced together over the 3 year programme of the art academy. The classroom was disassembled and brought to the old art academy space of Kunstnernes Hus (the house of artists) in Oslo. At the end of the exhibition, the classroom was brought back to the prison as a permanent artwork and space for the inmates in the high security prison.
