Sletteløkka Yatai!
Oslo, Norway, 2022

A mobile coffee cart designed from reused materials, serving as both a café and a ladder, promoting community engagement.

Sletteløkka Yattai! is a mobile coffee cart and ladder crafted from materials salvaged from an old Japanese house, originally dismantled in Tokyo and exhibited at the Japanese pavilion in the Venice Biennale 2021. Following the exhibition, remaining materials were repurposed to create this “yatai” – a traditional Japanese mobile food cart – fostering community dialogue on reuse and sustainability in Sletteløkka, Bydel Bjerke. Designed for the Oslo Architecture Triennale, the yatai serves as both a café and a platform for conversation on cultural heritage and sustainability. It was initially exhibited and used at the Triennale headquarters in the old Munch Museum, then repurposed as a community fixture in Sletteløkka to explore reuse and shared spaces through communal engagement and everyday interactions.
