A collaborative project to redesign and rebuild the iconic boardwalk destroyed by Typhoon Odette in 2021, engaging the community through mutual support.

Following the destruction of Siargao’s iconic boardwalk by Typhoon Odette in 2021, the community rallied to rebuild these landmarks through a collaborative, participatory project. Through a series of workshops, uniting local stakeholders—including engineers, architects, environmentalists, surfers, and residents—to collectively redesign these structures. Participants explored sustainable design, cultural preservation, and practical building strategies. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they envisioned a multifunctional space that respects local heritage while promoting sustainable tourism. The project emphasized resilience, community involvement, and mutual support, aiming not only to restore a vital tourism asset but also to reinforce Siargao’s identity and empower its residents. This collaborative rebuilding effort is a testament to the island’s enduring spirit and commitment to balancing development with environmental and cultural preservation.
